My name is Semira and I’m a multi-disciplinary creative based in London, UK, who enjoys exploring themes of migration and identity through my work.
I specialise in embroidery, focusing on the Panjabi folk art of Phulkari, using the discipline as a way of honouring nature, spirituality and craft heritage.
With a deep interest in archiving, I enrolled in the British Library’s Community Archiving course, and now deliver creative sessions to engage others with archives, alongside art and South Asian history more widely.
I have had the pleasure of running workshops for community groups and cultural institutions, including the V&A, Kew Gardens and Christie’s. I also recently contributed to the community consultation group shaping Kensington Palace’s ‘The Last Princesses of Punjab’ exhibition (it’s on until November- go check it out!)
